I wonder if the sky looks the same from where you are. Like the way I wonder if people see colors the same way. I wonder if you notice when the moon falls in love with the sun every morning, or when they fall out at night. I wonder what you think about when you can’t find the right words, or who you think about before you fall asleep. I’m afraid I’m going to wake up too late. And you’ll be gone and the sky will be different, and it wouldn’t matter if we both could see it anyway. 

I can feel it in the sandy snow and the silence in the sunrise. And the quiet moments when no one else is listening. When I’m afraid I can’t even hear myself. I feel like I’ve been talking for years in a language no one else knows. 

I wish for one night we could be the sun and the moon. Dance around the universe and not worry about what has to come. Step on the stars and look down at the earth like we own the seas. The land below our feet and infinity above, there’s nothing that could make this any less than perfect. 

I’m on fire underwater and I’m dreaming while awake. I’m swimming through the atmosphere and I fill up my lungs with the sea.

I’m afraid one day things will feel right again, and you won’t need me to make them that way.
