Some days I feel like the sun’s on my side. I feel like I can carry it around and drop it from the rooftops and watch it roll along the streets while everyone sleeps. And it would crash into buildings and light up the darkest places. I can hide it in the palms of my hands and seal it in an envelope the size of North America and sail it across the seas. And it’d burn up all the distance and the sharks and islands that keep me from you. I’d leave glowing notes on the back of old receipts and shining love yous through the leaves in the tree in my backyard. I love you I love you I love you would shadow on the concrete and leave ashes in the grass and on the bridge and down the road. Glowing footprints that guide me and pull me and tug me until I’m falling into you. And when I want to sleep I’d send it under the earth like a flashlight underwater and I’d keep it there until you needed it. I’d save every tiny bit of light for when you’re tired of the dark. 

I’ve got your name on sealed envelopes and the last pages of notebooks and corners of call me backs and the hidden side of old photographs. You’re the smell of snow and the promise of sunshine…even if I’ve stolen the source. I’ve bookmarked you - written you between the lines of my favorite sentences and I’ve drawn you into the ink of everything I write. You’ve got fingerprints on everything I’ve been. 

Because I love you.

I love you I love you I love you. I love you from the moon to the sun and back around again. I’d sketch it on the windows you dream out of and I’d drive it through the streets you take home. And I’d write it upside down on your eyelids and I’d carve it into your skin and braid it into your thoughts if I thought you’d understand. But I can’t expect you to. Because I’m not sure I do. 

And I don’t ever want to.
